After studying Industrial Engineering at Eindhoven University of Technology, Alfons Willemsen took a position at oil company Esso (currently known as ExxonMobil). During eleven years, he held several positions, varying from human resources and marketing to supply. He conducted multiple logistic optimization projects.
In 1997, he switched to the chemical business and became logistic manager of the Business Group Coating Resins at DSM. After implementing a differentiated logistics strategy, he realized a higher service level and capacity utilization as well as a reduction of total costs. A focal point was an improvement in planning and better utilization of stocks. In his last year at DSM, he played an important role in the development of a number of concepts that were implemented globally (e.g. VMI, Demand Chain Planning).
From 2000 through 2007, Alfons, as a member of the European management, was responsible for all European supply chain activities of Arizona Chemical. The European supply chain organization encompassed the complete chain from Purchasing up to Customer Service. Besides many improvement projects, resulting in substantial cost and working capital reductions, the development of a robust European S&OP-process had his special interest.
In 2007, he switched to business consultancy at Involvation. Besides managing consultants, organizing training sessions, program management and facilitation of management games, Alfons has been responsible for (international) improvement projects in the area of strategy, supply chain management and purchasing. Furthermore, he has been initiator and driving force in the area of supply chain risk management.
In recent years, Alfons has extended his expertise in the area of the chemical and oil industry with experience in consumer electronics, machine manufacturing, inventory management and spare parts.
As a partner at Involvation he is involved in a large number of supply chain improvement projects. In addition, he is actively engaged in the contacts with ‘externals’ and the development of new advisory concepts.
Alfons lives in Apeldoorn, is married and father of a daughter and a son.
